300m tower (1887-1889)

Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923), an engineer specializing in the construction of metal frameworks and suspension bridges, in 1884 formed the project for a high tower designed as a large lattice pylon. After having been the target of many controversies and protests, the Tower was erected on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. A great attraction of this exhibition, it remains today the most visited monument in France.
