As early as 1887, Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) already had his personal touch, a synthesis of Impressionism and Pointillism, which not only provided tone but created form. It was partly with Gauguin, for whom he painted four versions of Sunflowers, and under the Arlesian light, that Van Gogh worked colour in all its fullness.
