Study of Horse, c. 1490
In 1482, Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asked Leonardo to build the largest equestrian statue in the world: a monument to the glory of his father. For nearly 16 years, Leonardo made countless anatomical drawings of horses to carry out this project. The sculpture unfortunately did not see the light of day during his lifetime. It will be made 5 centuries later in 1977, at the request of a passionate art collector. It can be seen today at the San Siro racecourse in Milan.
